CatAWhack Word for the Day: KINDNESS :)
12 7th, 2010

KINDNESS. The state, quality, or habit of being loving; warmhearted; compassionate; considerate; humane; empathetic; feeling; affectionate; the embodiment of goodwill.

The CatAWhack Crew has taken a pledge to extend a paw, a hand, a smile, a meow, a Whoo Whoo to each other and all living beings in a spirit of kindness…to make it our aspiration each day and every day to acknowledge and embrace all with adoration and appreciation.

We love this inspiring video by Amy Krouse Rosenthal:

The next video is a NONSECTARIAN message. We include a comment by pileofbones who said it beautifully: “It is for ALL people of ALL races, creeds, colors, faiths. Everyone. Peace, love, compassion, respect, kindness, dignity, safety, tolerance, divinity, spirituality, and the right to spiritual freedom are the rights and privileges of ALL beings. Pay attention. Read the quotes and their authors. This message is for ALL. Please ‘recallrealidentity’, open your mind and your heart to this possibility. KINDNESS IS FOR ALL.”

CitiKitty Cat Toilet Training: Cats Ditch the Litter Box for the Porcelain Pot
11 15th, 2010

The felines of the CatAWhack Crew, meticulous groomers that they are, like the idea of ditching the litter box for the porcelain pot. However, they were somewhat purrplexed with the thought of sharing a toilet with a human being.

We discussed using potties designed for human toddlers with a few draw backs…no flushing to remove the waste and prevent odor and it would require some effort (cleaning) on my part. So while bucks would be saved on the litter, brawn would still be required with a little labor.

Another option would be a removable toilet training seat that would fit over the actual toilet seat. This would allow both feline and human to use the facilities without incident or accident. Drawbacks? Since the toilet lid would remain up at all times, there is always the chance that feline family members may swipe a drink from the toilet bowl. Second, canine companions may like the idea of capitalizing on the deposit made by the toilet trained cat unless, of course, we also teach them to flush. Third, the removable toilet training seat would need to be moved to accommodate the user, whether feline or human.

What about those furry paws around the rim of the toilet seat? Is there any chance paws could slip? Time to get out the non-skid tape. Good for them…not so good for us! :) However, we suspect felines will do just fine with their balance, agility, and precise footing.

Overall, members of the CatAWhack Crew see this toilet training alternative to litter boxes pawsitive for the environment, for the pocketbook, and for the nose. Way to go CitiKitty!

CatAWhack Purrspective: The Elephant in the Living Room: A Movie Too Big to Ignore
10 23rd, 2010

This documentary film by Michael Webber talks about exotic animals who have become common household pets in the United States.  It came to the Crew’s attention from The Tiniest Tiger on Twitter. This film follows two characters: Tim Harrison, a decorated police officer, firefighter and paramedic who has captured and rescued literally hundreds of lions, tigers, alligators, bears and deadly snakes, all in the United States and Terry Brumfield, an animal lover who has bottle-fed and hand-raised two African lion cubs in his home.

The CatAWhack Purrspective

The Crew can appreciate all purrspectives…

A bond forms between the individual or family who has embraced what has been seen and accepted by mainstream society as a ‘wild’ animal. This animal may have been raised, nurtured, and socialized with humans from the time of infancy. He becomes an integral part of the family. He is loved and he loves back through body language (playful snuggles, paw taps, eye contact, affectionate gestures) and verbal greetings. He sleeps with children in the home without incident. No signs of aggression are observed or warranted in a ‘safe’ environment. There is a love and a familiarity that extinguishes all fear.
